Your customers are asking ChatGPT. Are you in the answer?

Search changed. People no longer scroll ten blue links, they ask a question and take the answer they are given. If your business is not named in that answer, you are invisible, no matter how well you rank on Google.

The problem

Ranking on Google is no longer the same as being found

When someone asks ChatGPT or Google AI for the best plumber in Ringwood, the answer names three or four businesses. That list is not your Google ranking. It is built from an entirely different set of signals, and most Melbourne business websites send none of them.

I checked this across the businesses I work with. The pattern is consistent. Sites that rank perfectly well on Google get named in AI answers almost never, because nothing on the page is structured in a way an AI model can quote.

What actually decides it

What puts a business in the answer

Questions answered directly

AI models quote the first clear sentence that answers a question. Pages that bury the answer under three paragraphs of preamble get skipped entirely.

Structured data on every page

The machine readable layer that tells a model what your business is, where it works and what it charges. Most sites have none of it.

Crawlers allowed in

There are 21 AI crawlers that matter in 2026. Most websites silently block some of them, usually without the owner ever knowing.

Mentioned somewhere else

Models trust claims that appear on more than one site. Directories, reviews and listings carry more weight here than another blog post ever will.

Find out where you stand

Check your own website first, free

I built a free checker that scores any website on both normal SEO and AI search readiness. It takes about thirty seconds and it does not ask for your email. Run your own site through it, then run your closest competitor.

The fix

What I do about it

Everything above is included in the $225 per month plan. It is not a separate AI search package sold on top, because splitting it out would be daft. A website that cannot be found is not finished.

$225 per month
  • A website of up to 30 pages built for your business, not a template
  • SEO and AI search tools included, not sold as an extra
  • One to one support from someone local you can actually call
  • Month to month, and the price never goes up

Questions

What is AI search optimisation?

It is the work that gets your business named and cited when someone asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity or Claude for a recommendation. It overlaps with SEO but the signals are different, and a site can rank well on Google while being completely absent from AI answers.

Is AI search optimisation the same as SEO?

No. SEO decides where you sit in a list of links. AI search decides whether you get named at all in a written answer. Google rewards authority and links. AI models reward questions answered directly, structured data and being mentioned on other trusted sites.

How do I know if my business shows up in ChatGPT?

Ask it. Type the question a customer would type, such as best electrician in Croydon, and see who gets named. If you are not there, that is your answer. My free checker also scores the technical side of why.

How much does AI search optimisation cost in Melbourne?

$225 per month as part of the full plan, which also includes the website of up to 30 pages, hosting and support. Agencies that sell it separately in Melbourne generally start around $1,500 a month.

How long does it take to show up in AI search?

The technical groundwork takes a fortnight. Appearing in answers takes longer because models refresh on their own schedule, so expect a few months before it shows consistently. Anyone promising it in a week is guessing.
