I am based in Melbourne's east and I work across 107 suburbs in Boroondara, Whitehorse, Manningham, Maroondah, Knox, Banyule, Nillumbik and Yarra Ranges. That runs from Diamond Creek in the north out to Lilydale, down to Rowville and back west to Kew. If you want to sit down with the person building your website, that is the point of being local.

Boroondara

13 suburbs in Boroondara

Kew is the western edge of where I work, and Boroondara is the stretch of the east that was built first. Camberwell, Hawthorn, Canterbury and Balwyn are old, established and very well served, which changes what a website has to do here. You are rarely the only option, so the job is being the obvious one.

Businesses in this pocket tend to already have a site. Usually the problem is not that it looks bad, it is that it was built once and never touched again, so it says nothing current and ranks for nothing local.

Whitehorse

15 suburbs in Whitehorse

Box Hill has towers now. It is the closest thing the eastern suburbs have to a second city centre, and the businesses around it, through Blackburn, Nunawading, Mitcham and Vermont, are competing in a much busier market than they were ten years ago.

Whitehorse is also where suburb level search matters most, because a search for a trade in Blackburn and the same search in Vermont South return different businesses. A single page about your whole service area will not do that work.

Manningham

10 suburbs in Manningham

Manningham runs from Bulleen and Doncaster out through Templestowe and Donvale to Warrandyte, where the suburbs stop and the bush starts. Doncaster Hill is the commercial centre and the rest is mostly residential, which means a lot of the good businesses here work from home or from a yard rather than a shopfront.

That is exactly the case where the website is the premises. If there is no window for someone to walk past, the site is doing all of it.

Maroondah

10 suburbs in Maroondah

Maroondah is Ringwood and Croydon and everything folded around them, and it is where most of my clients are. Close enough that I can be at your place in twenty minutes, which is the entire argument for using someone local instead of an agency you only ever email.

Knox is the southern edge of the area, Rowville across to Boronia and Ferntree Gully, with the hills rising behind it. Plenty of trades, workshops and family businesses here, a lot of them second generation, and a lot of them running on word of mouth alone.

Word of mouth is a good problem to have. It stops being enough the moment the person being told your name looks you up and finds nothing.

Banyule

16 suburbs in Banyule

Banyule sits between Kew and Diamond Creek, so it is inside the area by geography rather than by anybody calling it the eastern suburbs. Greensborough, Montmorency, Eltham’s neighbours and the Heidelberg and Ivanhoe stretch down towards the river.

The crew above is Eden Building and Landscaping, who work out of Greensborough. Another one of my own photos rather than something bought off a stock library.

Diamond Creek is the northern limit of the area, and Nillumbik is the green wedge either side of it: Eltham, Research, Wattle Glen, Kangaroo Ground and North Warrandyte. Large blocks, bush, and businesses that serve a wide radius from a small base.

When your customers are spread across a lot of ground, the map pack and the suburb pages do more for you than anything else on a website.

Yarra Ranges

24 suburbs in the Yarra Ranges

Lilydale is the eastern limit, and the part of the Yarra Ranges I cover runs from Mooroolbark and Chirnside Park up into the Dandenongs, through Montrose and Kalorama and out to Belgrave and Monbulk.

Trading in the hills is its own thing. Your customers come from the villages around you and from people driving up for the day, and those are two different searches. A site that only speaks to one of them is leaving the other on the road.

Which Melbourne suburbs do you cover?

107 suburbs across Melbourne's east, in the Boroondara, Whitehorse, Manningham, Maroondah, Knox, Banyule, Nillumbik and Yarra Ranges council areas. The footprint runs from Diamond Creek in the north, east to Lilydale, south to Rowville and west to Kew, and the full list is on this page. I take on clients across the rest of Melbourne too, the difference is only how often we meet in person.

Do you meet clients face to face?

Yes. That is the main reason to use someone local rather than an agency you only ever email. For clients in the eastern suburbs I come to you.

Do you work with businesses outside Melbourne?

Yes, and everything except the in person visits works exactly the same. The local knowledge matters most for suburb level search, which is where I focus.
