Ask the right people for a Google review, and learn which words work
Most business owners know Google reviews matter. Most of them still forget to ask. I wanted the Google review system in the Scalus app to fix three things at once.
The problem
Asking for a review by hand is easy to forget, especially in a busy week. Your best past customers, the ones who loved the job a couple of years ago, never get asked at all. And nobody really knows which words make a person stop and leave a review, so every review text is a guess.
The result
- Ask one customer in one press. On your Google reviews page, put in their first and last name and a mobile, tick the box to say they are your customer, and press once. The text goes out on a weekday between 9am and 5pm.
- The same mobile is asked once a year at most. Your Google reviews are checked first, so anyone who has already reviewed you under their name is left alone.
- Bring in your past customers. Paste a list or choose a CSV from your job records, a first name and a mobile on each line. Nobody is texted straight away. They wait for a check first.
- Two wordings, side by side. A second wording is tried on half of one text. Once enough texts have gone out, the better one is kept by itself.
- Two kinds of link. Half the links go straight to your Google review box and half go to the rating page first, to see which gets more reviews.
- Checked every evening. A clear winner is kept by itself, and your page says so when it happens.
Ask more of the right people, and let your own results show which words work.
